Pappu Pongali

Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 1 Cup Green Gram (Pesara Pappu)
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 2 tsp Cashews
  • 3-4 Red chilies
  • 2-3 sprigs of curry leaves
  • Whole Pepper and Pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
Procedure:
  • Cook the Rice and Green Gram together with 1:2 ratio of rice/dal to water
  • In a pan take some oil and add Chana Dal, Mustard Seeds, Jeera, Urad Dal, Whole pepper, ground nuts, cashews, and red chilies.
  • Once the seeds start to splutter add cashews, curry leaves
  • Once the rice and dal are cooked add the Tadka, pepper powder and salt and mix will
  • Add little water if necessary and let it cook for 5 minutes
  • Pappu Pongali is ready to eat with Phalli Chutney or Mango pickle!!!!
Tip:
  • Add the tadka to the cooked rice and dal mixture when hot do not let it cool down
